Abstract
In June 2024, the American Statistical Association (ASA) LGBTQ+ Advocacy Committee hosted a webinar on “An Interdisciplinary Look at Trans and Gender-non-conforming Inclusion in STEM”. The webinar consisted of three presentations that approached inclusion in STEM via different viewpoints and concluded with a panel discussion. This article provides the panelists with more space to reflect upon the questions that were asked. It is the ASA LGBTQ+ Advocacy Committee’s hope that with increased awareness and understanding around SOGISC (Sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics) data, assumptions that impact data collection, data analysis, and the representation of such data as well as the treatment of the individuals who willingly identify themselves as minorities, will be reexamined.
