Abstract

This thesis is concerned with examining the relationship between education, history, memory, and identity in the framework of reconciliation and in the context of a post-conflict Northern Ireland. Using Northern Ireland as a case study, it examines the views and approaches that educators have taken with regard to historical education. What is the goal of the educational curriculum in Northern Ireland, particularly in terms of history teaching? What do youth, educators and communities see as the purpose and potential of history education'?
