Abstract
By analyzing the French Colonial Exposition of 1931 through the lens of Bakhtin's concept of carnival, I attempt to give voice to the people who attended the event and show that the new idea of "France" the exposition was intended to present was reinterpreted and misinterpreted by its spectators.
