Abstract

Fingeresh uses a synthesis of government documents, journal entries, and secondary sources to create a narrative of the Truman administration’s decision-making process regarding Palestine in the months leading up to the US recognition of Israel. He argues that despite heavy interference from the State Department, the perseverance of Zionist leaders in their attempts to reach out to Truman and influence him on a personal level led to his decision to push for US recognition of Israel.
