Abstract
Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1974, Vol 19(3), 182-183. Reviews the book, Rebellion in the University by Seymour Martin Lipset (1972). The present volume perhaps concludes the recent spate of books on student dissent. While by no means the most provocative, it does provide an outstanding synthesis of most of the significant theory and research on the subject. Essentially the volume attempts to solve one of the major social puzzles of the past decade: how can we account for the, immense turmoil that erupted on campuses and spilled over into the many byways of society? In sum, the author work brings us to the limits of what is presently known about student dissent.
