Abstract

This detailed work is based on two years of research performed about 20 years ago in Kruger National Park, South Africa, covering all aspects of the ecology, conservation, and behavior of the leopard. Numerous tables, maps, and graphs provide a wealth of information. As a title in the series "Resource Management in the Tropics," the book will be of most use to graduate students and faculty, especially in wildlife management; undergraduates and general readers will probably find the presentation technical and dry, although the 70-page summary chapter is quite readable. The book is well produced, with black-and-white photographs. The interest in the biology of large felids appears to have waned after the 1970s, with little work being done in the last decade. This work will therefore probably be the standard reference on the subject for many years to come.
