Interest in corporatism has surged in recent years among political scientists, sociologists, and historians trying to explain changes in economic institutions and processes of national economic policy-making in various OECD nations. This essay surveys various meanings of corporatism, the many propositions offered about economic and political factors encouraging the growth of corporatism, and the various propositions proposed to explain the economic impact of corporatist institutions.
